2018 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Denis Mukwege will deliver a moving address today at Morehouse College's "Crown Forum." In this upcoming speech, Dr. Mukwege will navigate the intricate terrain of "The Challenge of the Congo." Dr. Mukwege will take us back in time in an attempt to unravel the historical threads of suffering and resilience in the heart of Africa and beyond. Drawing inspiration from Kwame Nkrumah's 1967 book, "The Challenge of the Congo," he will explore the enduring relevance of this challenge to our interconnected world.

At the core of his message lies a poignant truth: the fate of the Congo is not a distant or isolated concern but a universal challenge that resonates with us all, especially African Americans and Africans. He will emphasize the shared roots of our collective experience, from a common origin to divergent paths marked by suffering. The narrative will connect the suffering endured by African Americans, from slavery to lynching to segregation and mass incarceration, with the enduring challenges faced by the people of the Congo – from colonialism to neocolonialism and modern slavery.

Dr. Mukwege emphasizes that the Congo is not just a geographical entity, but the heart of Africa, and Africa is the mother to us all. He will weave together historical context, personal experiences, and a compelling call to action, leaving you with a resounding message of unity, justice, and dignity for all, regardless of origin or ethnicity.

Dr. Mukwege, who founded Panzi Hospital and Foundation, which has provided holistic care to over 80,000 survivors of sexual violence, will not only enlighten you about the challenges faced by the Congo but also inspire you to become champions of change and advocates for gender equality and women's rights.
